Situated in the scenic state of New Hampshire, PLP Composite stands out as a pioneering manufacturer of fiberglass poles, specializing in flag poles and light poles renowned for their lightweight nature and straightforward installation process.

Seeking to enhance their manufacturing efficiency, particularly in the production of post tops, PLP Composite approached Keene Additive. The challenge was clear: their existing process was mired in antiquated, non-standardized techniques for mold creation and the use of hazardous resins. This, coupled with the inconsistency of supplier methodologies, posed significant obstacles to quality and replicability.

Our initial engagement aimed at refining their mold production to achieve a higher degree of consistency, thereby enhancing the manufacturing process and product quality. However, our collaboration unveiled an opportunity for a more transformative solution.

We identified Additive Manufacturing as the optimal strategy to overhaul the production of post tops. This innovative approach allowed for the 3D printing of post tops, incorporating designs with added structural integrity. Through reverse engineering, we created digital 3D models of their designs, a first for PLP Composite. This advancement granted them unprecedented flexibility for future design improvements. With these digital blueprints, we meticulously fine-tuned the designs, selected the optimal UV-resistant ASA filament, and achieved consistent production of superior quality post tops for their light poles.

Our partnership with PLP Composite is an ongoing journey of innovation and growth. We are actively collaborating with their design team to develop new products, facilitating their entry into new markets. Moreover, we are exploring avenues to empower PLP Composite with their own 3D printing capabilities, paving the way for self-sufficiency and innovation in their manufacturing processes.
